Green Light for HS2
Group Development Director, Stuart Pratt gives his view on HS2 and why this is a step forward for the UK.
“It is overwhelmingly positive to see such a large project given the green light today in the North and the Midlands – like many people locally, I see this as a huge benefit for professionals and businesses within the region.
“This announcement highlights just how important investment in infrastructure is and demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring economic balance within the country. The HS2 line not only links Birmingham to London it also, and more importantly, connects London out to thriving cities within the Midlands and the North.
“The new transport links will not only improve connectivity, but will also drive investment into regional cities, this mirrors Godwin Developments’ current strategy of investing in sites within the private rental sector (PRS) and build to rent (BTR) markets. Our strategy focuses on developing locations within towns and cities in the North and the Midlands. These developments will not only create high-quality housing stock for local landlords but will also contribute to the growth, expansion and regeneration of the regions. As the heart of the UK’s manufacturing industries are based within the Midlands and the North, the increase in rail freight capacity provided by HS2 will also provide huge economic benefits to businesses within the region.
“Following today’s news, we are excited to be able to progress with a major regional redevelopment site located near to the approved route, more details of this exciting development will be released in the coming months.”
